This pilgrimage includes:

  • Roundtrip air transportation from Detroit

  • Land transportation: During WYD week, provided by WYD Council. During Days in the Diocese, provided by host Diocese.

  • Accommodations:  During WYD week, in 3-star hotel in Madrid.  During Days in the Days, provided by host Diocese.

  • Meals:  During WYD week, full American breakfast at hotel daily with other meals provided by WYD Council.  During Days in the Diocese, provided by host Diocese.

  • WYD Registration Fee ($250)

  • Taxes & fuel surcharge ($371)

Day 1 Wed Aug 10: DETROIT - MADRID. Arrive at the airport two hours before departure to Europe. Our flight includes meals, drinks and in-flight entertainment.

Day 2 Thu Aug 11: MADRID. Upon arrival in Madrid, transfer to our motor coach for the drive to our host Diocese.

Days 3 - 5, Aug 12 - 14: Days in the Diocese (DID). Activities, accommodations and meals provided by our Diocesan hosts.

Day 6 Mon Aug 15: DID - MADRID. Drive to Madrid and enjoy a panoramic tour of the classical and modern squares of the city on our way to our WYD accommodations.

Day 7 Tue Aug 16: In the morning, we have time to explore the city on our own. This afternoon, we attend the opening ceremonies and celebrate Mass by the Archbishop Cardinal at Plaza de Castilla, Cibeles Square or other location (to be determined.)

Day 8 Wed Aug 17: This morning, we participate in Catechesis sessions & Eucharist. In the afternoon and evening, we join the Youth Festival with religious & cultural activities.

Day 9 Thu Aug 18: This morning, we participate in Catechesis sessions & Eucharist. Afternoon arrival and welcome of the Holy Father at Plaza de Castilla and traveling through Calle Alcalá, Puerta de Alcalá, Cibeles, Recoletos, Castellana to Plaza de Castilla (to be determined.) We join the Youth Festival in the evening.

Day 10 Fri Aug 19: Catechesis, Eucharist or Sectorial meetings in the morning: Families, youth, seminarians, religious, contemplative life, caritas, solidarity, culture of life. Following this, we take part in the Celebration of Reconciliation. This afternoon, we participate in the Stations of the Cross - a re-enactment of our Lord's Passion and Death. Youth Festival in the evening.

Day 11 Sat Aug 20: Pilgrimage walk to site of our evening Vigil. In the afternoon, “Cuatro Vientos” (Four Winds) event. Evening Vigil with the Holy Father and sleep out 'under the stars'.

Day 12 Sun Aug 21: After morning prayers, we participate in the closing Eucharist and Ángelus. Announcement of the next World Youth Day by the Holy Father. Afternoon is at leisure for pursuits on our own.

Day 13 Mon Aug 22: MADRID - DETROIT. Transfer to the airport for our flight home—the end of our Pilgrimage to World Youth Day 2011.

Download, print and complete the Registration Form.  Send the completed Registration Form, along with your deposit ($300 minimum) to Patrick Rinker at the address shown on the Registration Form.  You will receive additional information (including Travel Insurance) and materials in about 10 work days.
